Young girls are risking their physical health by making improvised sanitary products from tissue, socks and plastic bags. \r\nThis isn’t just an issue for young teenagers. 56% of 18-24 year olds have had to go a day without period essentials, or cut down on them due to lack of funds. \r\nMany women are embarrassed by their periods, and are even embarrassed about buying necessary sanitary products for them. This shame is incredibly harmful as it prevents necessary conversations about periods, which ultimately leads to a lack of knowledge of the implications that come with menstruating. For example, the lack of effective menstrual cramp pain relief, which is shown to reduce classroom performance.","state":"completed","signature_count":481,"threshold_for_referral":50,"threshold_for_debate":10000,"created_at":"2020-11-25T21:56:37.753Z","updated_at":"2026-04-17T08:29:44.497Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2020-11-27T14:31:56.358Z","closed_at":"2021-07-08T22:59:59.999Z","completed_at":"2021-09-12T23:00:00.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2020-11-25T23:28:17.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":"2020-11-27T15:42:07.000Z","referred_at":"2021-07-09T23:00:00.000Z","debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":"2026-04-17T08:29:44.494Z","submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[{"code":"equality","name":"Equality and Human Rights"},{"code":"health","name":"Health and Care Services"}]}},{"type":"petition","id":244854,"links":{"self":"https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/244854.json"},"attributes":{"action":"I would like you to ask the Senedd to relax Covid restrictions on amateur singing in groups.","background":"I speak for a local choir in rural West Wales (there are at least 5 other choirs in the vicinity) who have been practicing on Zoom during the pandemic but we need to sing together to improve our performance. I would like the craft of the Welsh metrical tradition to be taught in English language schools. This craft has developed alongside the Welsh language and multinational histories of Wales.
