In the UK, that equates to about 9.5 million tonnes, which represents a huge waste of resources and unnecessary pressure on our environment. Despite this, from 2018 to 2019, Trussell Trust charity had to distribute a record 1.6 million food bank parcels in the UK. We believe that food should not be thrown away when there are people going hungry in this country.\r\n\r\nIn February 2016, France decided to take action against the food waste problem and mandated that its supermarkets donate all food nearing its sell-by-date to charity – a law that now rescues 46,000 tons of food from being thrown away every year, and has increased food bank donations in France by over 20%. \r\n\r\nIn 2019, the law was extended to encompass the institutional catering and agro-food industries. We believe that WE CAN DO THE SAME here in Wales by saving edible food and preventing our nation’s supermarkets, restaurant chains and food suppliers from sending decent food to landfill. The Welsh Government has already been working with Fare Share Cymru to redistribute the equivalent of over 8 million meals since 2011. \r\n\r\nBy adopting the solution used in France, we can take a much bigger step towards ending hunger in Wales, as well as the Welsh Government’s goal of halving food waste by 2025, which will also put us on the path to becoming Zero Waste by 2050. \r\n\r\nPlease sign this petition calling on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to pass a law similar to the one in France to take a stand AGAINST food waste and FOR those in need.","additional_details":"For more information see the following materials: \r\nFrance’s food waste law extended to agrifood and catering businesses https://iegpolicy.agribusinessintelligence.informa.com/PL222646/Frances-food-waste-law-extended-to-agrifood-and-catering-businesses \r\nIs France’s Groundbreaking Food-Waste Law Working? https://pulitzercenter.org/reporting/frances-groundbreaking-food-waste-law-working French law forbids food waste by supermarkets https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/feb/04/french-law-forbids-food-waste-by-supermarkets \r\nWelsh Government aims to halve food waste by 2025 https://environmentjournal.online/articles/welsh-government-aims-halve-food-waste-2025/ \r\nThe Trussell trust – https://www.trusselltrust.org/ \r\nFare Share Cymru - http://www.fareshare.cymru/en/home/ \r\nWRAP Cymru -http://www.wrapcymru.org.uk/ ","state":"completed","signature_count":84,"threshold_for_referral":50,"threshold_for_debate":5000,"created_at":"2020-03-10T00:00:00.000Z","updated_at":"2021-05-07T13:39:07.841Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2020-03-10T00:00:00.000Z","closed_at":"2020-05-11T22:59:59.999Z","completed_at":"2021-01-12T00:00:00.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2020-03-10T00:00:00.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":"2020-05-07T07:42:27.000Z","referred_at":"2020-05-11T22:59:59.999Z","debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":"2021-05-07T13:39:07.840Z","submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[]}},{"type":"petition","id":1675,"links":{"self":"https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/1675.json"},"attributes":{"action":"Lower the age for breast cancer screening in Wales from 50 to 30","background":"A friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 36. The statement released says: \n \nIn summer 2021, current AS learners will have two options for their A level award. They will choose whether to: \n- only sit the A2 units, with the A level grade based on their performance in the A2 units; \n- or sit both the AS and A2 units. They will be awarded the best grade from either route. \n \nHowever, this fails to take into consideration students that have worked extremely hard to achieve good predicted grades throughout the entirety of Year 12, and who were therefore prepared for upcoming exams, the first of which were due to begin in only four weeks from when this decision was made. \n \nYear 12 would ordinarily contribute to 40% of the overall A Level grade. \n \nIf a student chooses to sit only A2 Units, as per the first option above, students will have worked tirelessly during Year 12 for 0% of their A Level grade, which has never previously been the case. This increases the pressure enormously for students continuing into Year 13 and contradicts the Minister’s hope of a “fair system” that aids a student’s “wellbeing”. Further, this extra pressure will not be accounted for in the future when the 2021 cohort of students compete for jobs with students credited by the much fairer system that has previously always been in place. \n \nThe second route of taking both AS and A2 units in 2021 not only means that Year 12 again contributes nothing to the A Level grade overall, but does not decrease the already immense pressures of Year 13 either. Instead, it simply places the entirety of the pressure from both years and combines them for exams in the Summer 2021 exam series. \n \nThis is not fair, and we shouldn’t be confused by the statements released into believing it is.\n\n","additional_details":"Education is a vital aspect of a student’s life, especially those who have decided to continue with A Levels, all of which require great determination and hard work, in the hope of achieving grades needed for future plans. \n \nThis time is stressful enough for students. \n \nThe last thing we need is a rushed decision that is ultimately detrimental to our future plans. \n \nBoth pathways offered will be disadvantageous for students. \n \nWe ask for this decision to be adjusted to take every student into account.\n\n","state":"completed","signature_count":219,"threshold_for_referral":50,"threshold_for_debate":5000,"created_at":"2020-04-07T00:00:00.000Z","updated_at":"2021-05-07T13:33:00.436Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2020-04-07T00:00:00.000Z","closed_at":"2020-04-21T23:59:59.999Z","completed_at":"2020-07-16T23:00:00.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2020-04-07T00:00:00.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":"2020-04-28T09:00:00.000Z","referred_at":"2020-04-21T23:59:59.999Z","debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":"2021-05-07T13:33:00.431Z","submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[{"code":"covid-19","name":"COVID-19"},{"code":"education","name":"Education"}]}},{"type":"petition","id":1663,"links":{"self":"https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/1663.json"},"attributes":{"action":"Ban Single Use Plastic Milk Bottles in schools","background":"We, children of St Aidan’s Church in Wales VA School call on the National Assembly of Wales to change the way we use plastic milk bottles in schools. This petition therefore requests that Welsh Government hold a public consultation into defining a maximum limit on the number of breeding bitches in licensed breeding kennels. Included in this consultation should be a review of whether or not the Welsh public and Welsh organisations consider that the mass breeding of dogs is acceptable. The consultation also needs to consider whether the licensing local authorities in Wales have fulfilled their requirement to inspect and where necessary revoke dog breeding licenses, as if we are to permit the mass breeding of dogs then Welsh Government must ensure that local authorities enforce licensing conditions and fulfill their obligations as laid out in the 2014 Regulations. \n","additional_details":null,"state":"completed","signature_count":229,"threshold_for_referral":50,"threshold_for_debate":5000,"created_at":"2019-10-02T00:00:00.000Z","updated_at":"2021-05-07T14:27:57.527Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2019-10-02T00:00:00.000Z","closed_at":"2020-03-31T00:00:00.000Z","completed_at":"2020-11-17T00:00:00.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2019-10-02T00:00:00.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":"2020-03-31T00:00:00.000Z","referred_at":"2020-03-31T00:00:00.000Z","debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":"2021-05-07T14:27:57.527Z","submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[]}},{"type":"petition","id":1700,"links":{"self":"https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/1700.json"},"attributes":{"action":"Revert to Welsh language spelling of place-names","background":"Wales has many place names which have needlessly been Anglicised, and have often been replaced by Anglicised forms for no good reason. This was the first intermediate school to be built specifically for the education of girls in Wales (and England) and is the subject of a planning application for demolition. Failure to protect it will lead to the loss of a nationally important historic asset. \r\n\r\nOpened in 1896, Cowbridge was the first girls’ intermediate school to be built in Wales (and England) as a result of the Welsh Intermediate Education Act of 1889, a pivotal moment in Welsh History. Amid its contemporaries, Cowbridge was highly unusual in including accommodation for boarders from the outset and largely funded by a local philanthropist. \r\n\r\nThe original character of the school survives to a very high degree, both internally and externally, including the original hall and staircase. Only 5 comparable (of 95) schools are listed across Wales. A survey of them all confirms that Cowbridge survives to an equivalent degree to some and a better degree than others. \r\n\r\nThe architect, Robert Williams, was a pioneer of his time and renowned for being a radical, prominent advocate of building conservation, national pioneer of social housing, promoter of the Welsh School of Architecture and proponent for the publication of building literature in the Welsh language. He later went on to work in London and then Egypt for the Davies Bryan family, where many of his buildings still stand and are nationally protected.\r\n\r\nIn summary, the former Cowbridge Intermediate School for Girls’ survives as a prominent and attractive testimony to a pivotal moment in Welsh history and the equal opportunities afforded to underprivileged girls of the time. This will force commuters to change trains a Llandudno Junction, where they will have to wait over an hour for a connection. \r\n\r\nThe cancelation of this train service goes totally against Welsh Government policy in a number of respects: \r\n\r\n1) It will result in increased greenhouse gas emissions by forcing people from public transport into their cars, at a time of a “climate emergency”. \r\n\r\n2) It will deny access to Bangor University by those living in some of Wales' most deprived communities. \r\n\r\nWe therefore call on the Assembly to force a rethink on TfW and to ensure the rail service in North Wales is sufficiently frequent and affordable to encourage commuters off the roads and onto the trains.\r\n","additional_details":"","state":"completed","signature_count":953,"threshold_for_referral":50,"threshold_for_debate":5000,"created_at":"2020-01-14T00:00:00.000Z","updated_at":"2021-05-07T13:08:12.887Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2020-01-14T00:00:00.000Z","closed_at":"2020-02-29T00:00:00.000Z","completed_at":"2021-03-16T00:00:00.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2020-01-14T00:00:00.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":"2020-02-29T00:00:00.000Z","referred_at":"2020-02-29T00:00:00.000Z","debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":"2021-05-07T13:08:12.886Z","submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[]}},{"type":"petition","id":1626,"links":{"self":"https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/1626.json"},"attributes":{"action":"We call on the Welsh Government to take urgent action to secure improvements to the A487 between Gellilydan and Maentwrog","background":"We are asking the Welsh Government to take urgent action to ensure that tangible improvements are made to the A487 between Gellilydan and Maentwrog following the tragic and devastating accidents that have occurred there in the last two years.\n\nWe must make sure that a definite change is made to the road so that such disasters do not happen again.\n\n","additional_details":null,"state":"completed","signature_count":5450,"threshold_for_referral":50,"threshold_for_debate":5000,"created_at":"2019-09-09T00:00:00.000Z","updated_at":"2021-05-07T13:10:31.032Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2019-09-09T00:00:00.000Z","closed_at":"2020-02-28T00:00:00.000Z","completed_at":"2021-03-16T00:00:00.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2019-09-09T00:00:00.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":"2020-02-28T00:00:00.000Z","referred_at":"2020-02-28T00:00:00.000Z","debate_threshold_reached_at":"2020-02-28T00:00:00.000Z","scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":"2021-05-07T13:10:31.031Z","submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[]}},{"type":"petition","id":1623,"links":{"self":"https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/1623.json"},"attributes":{"action":"The Golden Hour when Suffering a Stroke - Ambulance Response Times to be recategorised from Amber back to Red Status","background":"Current Welsh Assembly Policy has categorised Ambulance Response Times to a Stroke Victim to the \"Amber\" Category- meaning there is NO SET Response Time Target to meet or achieve.\n\nThis Petition requests that the Response Time Target for a person suspected of suffering a stroke be recategorised and return to the \"Red\" Category, thereby ensuring that any stroke victim has the quickest possible Ambulance Response.\n\nThere is a well known fact of the \"Golden Hour\" which is the most critical 60 minutes in getting the much needed and relevant medical assistance to anyone suffering a stroke. Working towards an overall improvement in the status of Welsh wildlife and preventing or at least minimising the risk of any further extinctions as a consequence of human activities. \r\n2. There is absolutely no point in the further issuing of dog breeding licences under the circumstances we have cited. To do otherwise would be to condone a broken licensing system, endanger the welfare of breeding dogs and puppies in these establishments and provide the public with a false sense of security believing that licensing as it stands means an establishment is satisfactory to purchase a canine companion from. It is clear that there is little for the public to discern between a licensed and unlicensed puppy farm and as the Minister has herself made a commitment to run puppy farming out of Wales it stands to reason that she will be of a mind to take the most urgent and appropriate action to see that this happens now. Whilst we welcome the promised urgent review of the current licensing system, this does not go far enough.
