Because I am from the community I have the knowledge to know that many families struggle to find suitable places to live and stop while travelling. A lack of authorised sites can create difficulties for not just our community but for the settled community and local authorities. More sites would help improve stability, improve access to education and healthcare, and support the culture traditions of Gypsy and Traveller people.","additional_details":"Gypsy and Traveller families across Wales face serious problems. Many buy their own land but struggle to live on it. At the same time there are not enough authorised Traveller sites available.\r\n\r\nThis leaves many families with nowhere legal to go, forcing them to stop on the roadside, car parks and fields. This is causing difficulty for both Traveller and local communities but the real issue is a lack of lawful alternatives.\r\n\r\nFamilies should not be penalised for having nowhere else to live. The shortage of sites also fuels discrimination, racism and negative comments on social media and in person towards the Gypsy and Traveller community. \r\n\r\nWe ask the Welsh Government to provide more authorised sites; to improve access to planning permission for families who own land; and take stronger action against prejudice and discrimination. The Welsh Government must report real progress with actions taken in response to the Senedd’s Follow up inquiry into the provision of sites for Gypsy, Roma and Travellers:\r\nhttps://senedd.wales/media/uyfdjvh3/cr-ld17012-e.pdf\r\n\r\nCreating more legal places to live would benefit both Gypsy and Traveller families and the wider settled community.\r\n\r\nPlease consider working with us not against us. Thank you.\r\n\r\nGT.Wales: https://gtwales.org.uk/","state":"open","signature_count":3,"threshold_for_referral":250,"threshold_for_debate":10000,"created_at":"2026-06-01T11:17:32.147Z","updated_at":"2026-06-04T11:31:07.536Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2026-06-04T11:31:07.525Z","closed_at":"2026-12-04T23:59:59.999Z","completed_at":null,"moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2026-06-01T19:39:50.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":null,"referred_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":null,"submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":"Elizabeth","rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[{"code":"communities-and-housing","name":"Communities and Housing"},{"code":"equality","name":"Equality and Human Rights"},{"code":"local-government","name":"Local Government"}],"signatures_by_country":[{"name":"Wales","code":"GB-WLS","signature_count":3}],"signatures_by_constituency":[{"id":"W09000052","name":"Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf","signature_count":3}],"signatures_by_region":[]}}}
