Both countries have achieved reductions on all key metrics, but in Wales without any badger culling.  Almost 95% of Welsh herds are officially TB-free, close to the lowest level in two decades . This is a cattle disease and cattle measures have been effective in both countries.  There is NO scientific evidence to show that badger culling has played any part in reductions in England.","additional_details":"A badger cull would be senseless, further decimate wildlife and has been shown have no effect on bovine TB.  Wales should be proud of its record and not go back on what‘s been achieved so far.\r\nTo adopt a model of slaughtering wildlife which has already been shown to be ineffective would be folly and irresponsible in the extreme. Wales prides itself on the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and we urge the Senedd to continue to put this at the heart of TB Eradication policy and reject calls for badger culling.\r\nAny change in Welsh policy must be accompanied by a full public consultation.\r\n\r\nUK TB Dashboard 2026\r\nhttps://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/incidence-of-tuberculosis-tb-in-cattle-in-great-britain/\r\n\r\nAnalysis of the impact of badger culling on bovine tuberculosis in cattle in the high-risk area of England, 2009–2020 Vet Record 2022 Langton et al\r\nhttps://bvajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/vetr.1384","state":"open","signature_count":53,"threshold_for_referral":250,"threshold_for_debate":10000,"created_at":"2026-07-19T11:38:27.165Z","updated_at":"2026-07-22T00:04:10.000Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2026-07-21T13:18:52.367Z","closed_at":"2027-01-21T23:59:59.999Z","completed_at":null,"moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2026-07-19T12:16:50.000Z","referral_threshold_reached_at":null,"referred_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"archived_at":null,"submitted_on_paper":false,"submitted_on":null,"creator_name":"Sarah Reisz","rejection":null,"debate":null,"topics":[{"code":"agriculture","name":"Agriculture Forestry and Food"},{"code":"animal-welfare","name":"Animal Welfare"}],"signatures_by_country":[{"name":"England","code":"GB-ENG","signature_count":2},{"name":"Wales","code":"GB-WLS","signature_count":51}],"signatures_by_constituency":[{"id":"W09000049","name":"Bangor Conwy Môn","signature_count":1},{"id":"W09000052","name":"Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf","signature_count":2},{"id":"W09000053","name":"Caerdydd Penarth","signature_count":1},{"id":"W09000054","name":"Casnewydd Islwyn","signature_count":1},{"id":"W09000055","name":"Ceredigion Penfro","signature_count":26},{"id":"W09000056","name":"Clwyd","signature_count":2},{"id":"W09000057","name":"Fflint Wrecsam","signature_count":1},{"id":"W09000058","name":"Gwynedd Maldwyn","signature_count":8},{"id":"W09000060","name":"Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg","signature_count":7},{"id":"W09000061","name":"Pontypridd Cynon Merthyr","signature_count":1},{"id":"W09000062","name":"Sir Fynwy Torfaen","signature_count":1}],"signatures_by_region":[]}}}
