Completed petition Anti-hate crime campaign in Wales

We call upon the National Assembly for Wales to condemn the rise in learning disability hate-crime and to urge the Welsh Government to create policies which challenge the negative perception of the value of people with a learning disability in Wales today.

Additional information: Mencap Cymru is Wales’ leading 3rd sector organisations working with people with a learning disability and their families and are launching on June 22nd a 3 year anti-hate crime campaign.

The petition seeks to challenge the government of Wales to recognise the importance of creating policies which address the negative attitudes towards disabled people and their families held by some in our communities in Wales.

There is a growing coalition of organisations such as AWFPC, All Wales People First and Learning Disability Wales committed to stopping learning disabled hate crime through promoting the positive contributions learning disabled people make to Wales and helping to tackle the causes of such hate crime and practical support such as helping people to report incidents of hate crime.

The petition will run from the launch of the campaign in Learning Disability Week to the International Day for People with Disabilities on December 3rd 2011
