Rejected petition Form a Welsh Cricket board and join the ICC (International Cricket Council)
Wales has international representation in many sports, but for cricket, one of the most popular games in the world it is represented by England. Although officially the England team represents England and Wales, Wales is thought of as an afterthought or technicality in its representation. There is typically no mention of Wales in its branding.
Wales has had international success in Rugby and Football, it deserves the opportunity to pursue the same in international cricket.
More details
There have been Welsh cricket teams in the past, however these have all been temporary and Wales has not been elevated to the status of ICC member.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.
Establishing a Welsh Cricket board and seeking membership of the International Cricket Council is a matter for Cricket Wales and the England and Wales Cricket Board. Neither the Welsh Government nor the Senedd has any direct responsibility over this.
As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
