Rejected petition Provide weekly testing for designated relatives of those in care in Wales.
We ask that each designated visitor be granted key worker status & sufficient tests for relatives be provided.
Enable each resident to have one visitor tested weekly with staff & be able to visit face to face.
We ask for plans for a pilot to be scrapped & testing for relatives to be rolled out across Wales immediately, as a more humane & nuanced solution that balances the risk of contracting Covid-19 against the devastating mental & physical deterioration of those in residential care.
More details
After 9 months over 40,000 loved ones are still locked away from those they love across the UK.
We can and should be leading the charge here in Wales and blazing a trail of compassion. Relatives have been separated from their loved ones for too many important festivals and celebrations.
Flo is 93. She moved to Wales to be near her daughter. They have seen each other 2.5 hours since Feb. Flo fell in July and was in hospital for a month when the visiting restrictions were relaxed & then the 2nd wave came. Flo has dementia. It is getting worse. She doesn't understand why she can't see her family. Flo is just one of thousands.
We would urge you to take into account the asks contained within the National Care Forum’s letter which has been signed by every leading organisation whose focus is the care and rights of elderly citizens in the UK and aligns with the asks of the RightsForResidents campaign. Both ask for all designated visitors to be tested with staff.
