Rejected petition Provide virtual education to years 10 and above to stabilise their learning
If we return to online learning for years 10 to 13, half the school pupils would be at home, making the school itself a safer environment for younger children and teachers. It would also provide more stability for the older learners, rather than the situation since September, where the children have been to & fro like yo yo's, because children needing to isolate or too many staff absences.
During the 3-month lockdown, most children in exam years worked hard at their online lessons that were provided with school support, ensuring a good teacher pupil bond was maintained. Many really excelled achieving their full potential. Older children could come into school to undertake assessments or exams when the younger years are not there.
More details
Schools have worked so hard to adapt but really this is an unacceptable method of learning. The stress of constantly shifting, timetables, lockdowns, exam changes, different teachers, self-isolations, are all taking their toll and the mental health of our teens is at serious risk.
This chaotic situation will have long term detrimental effects on their long-term career prospects of the children of 2020/21. The lack of decisive action from the Senedd is a horrifying failure in the safeguarding of our children’s futures.
