Rejected petition Reverse decisions made by the Welsh Assembly which prevent alcohol sales in public venues
This petition seeks to reverse one dimensional decisions made to prevent the sale of alcohol in venues during the pandemic.
We are obeying rules set out without sufficient evidence/source. As we enter a week which sees vaccines being administered, the mortality of our citizens is far safer than many of the industries which have been impacted.

Following initial mandatory guidelines set out earlier this year around social distancing, the hospitality industry absorbed the installation costs of protective screens and PPE to continue trade. Pubs, restaurants, suppliers and distributors have been forced to lose their ‘golden quarter’ trade, when revenues have already been paralysed this year. Opening under restricted hours & preventing the sale of alcohol is not viable, and can’t sustain costs let alone provide income/profit for businesses. A £340m support package is negligible when split across the entire hospitality industry. Doors must open, taps must pour and corks must be popped! Political viewpoints aside, these rules are nonsensical & archaic, and aren’t within the best interests of Wales’ 3m citizens. These actions are akin to Herbert Hoover’s prohibition experiment, costing the US gov’t $11bn in lost tax. The trajectory is clear, Wales will face immeasurable consequences in the years ahead unless we support this industry
Why was this petition rejected?
There’s already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue, or if the Petitions Committee has considered one in the last year.
