Rejected petition Stop the UK Government from denying hormone blockers to under 16s

The UK government is attempting to deny hormone blockers or to take away hormone blockers from children under the age of 16. The argument is that a child cannot give informed consent, and that it will cause irreversible damage, which is untrue and misinformed. Taking away the rights to this medication and constant psychological questioning of trans childrens identities across the uk will severely damage the mental health of trans children, and make childhood and puberty fearful and painful.

More details

Hormone blockers can save a childs life and reduce the pain of dysphoria for them, and they are a vital part for the child to decide if they truly want to go on with this. We want to stop the killing of trans people and the decline of their mental health, and we need your help.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

It concerns a decision reached by the UK Courts in the case of Bell v Tavistock. The judgement applies to England and Wales and is not a decision of the UK Government.

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust sought permission to appeal the order on 22 December and has published an FAQ for patients and families who may be affected by the judgement: https://gids.nhs.uk/information-following-judicial-review-judgment-december-2020

Petitions to the Senedd must concern an issue that is the responsibility of the Senedd or Welsh Government, and cannot relate to a case that is currently active in the UK Courts.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
