Completed petition Cancel external exam style assessments for GCSEs in 2021 and trust our teachers
GCSEs were cancelled in December and the Welsh government put in place:
non-examination assessment;
internal assessments that are planned and marked by teachers and lecturers;
assessments that are externally set and marked by WJEC.
I would like the Welsh government to cancel the external assessments and trust the teachers.

By removing external assessments and using internal assessments, course work and teacher evaluation, students would have a fair chance at achieving their target grades and it would relieve stress for teachers and students.
The disruption to students learning caused by lockdowns and irregular countrywide isolations and that not all schools are equal need to be recognised by the Welsh government.
This means not all students had equal learning opportunities over the lockdowns and the rest of the year is still uncertain.
This would ensure that all students are given an equal chance to get their rightful grades.

At its meeting on 2 March 2021, the Committee considered the petition as part of consideration of petition P-05-1128 Cancel externally set ‘assessments’ in 2021 for AS and A levels and only use teacher assessed grades. The Committee decided to close all petitions relating to this issue, on the basis of decisions taken by the Welsh Government to cancel externally set assessments for 2021.
