Rejected petition Legalize cannabis in Wales with a structured business framework.

I would like help to legalize cannabis in Wales in a structured and controlled environment. Being a big be leaver and advocate of CBD products, and marijuana i truly feel that now is the time to legalize these products. Not only would this put Wales on the map for new visitors and tourism it would also create jobs and allow businesses to grow. Also allow Wales to create new trade agreements for example: (Jamaica/Caribbean) in order for the products to be grown.

More details

Not only would this save costs in relation to Policing the revenue generated by this would benefit Wales and business. You only need to take a look at the framework from Amsterdam / California and other countries to see the benefits of allowing this to happen. This would certainly put Wales in the spotlight all over the world. And also help the people in the trade agreement countries in a positive way.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

The Government of Wales Act 2006 establishes the extent of the Senedd’s power to make new laws and amend existing law (also known as legislative competence). Schedules 7A and 7B of the 2006 Act set out the issues which are ‘restricted’ or ‘reserved’ - i.e. areas where the UK Parliament, not the Senedd, can legislate.

The legal framework around the misuse and/or dealing of drugs is reserved to the UK Parliament by Paragraph 54 of Schedule 7A of the Government of Wales Act.

As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.

Further information about the legislative powers of the Senedd can be found here:

You may wish to consider petitioning the UK Parliament regarding this matter instead: https://petition.parliament.uk/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
