Rejected petition Stop the proposed closure of Ysgol Blaenau.
Carmarthenshire county council have put forward a proposal that would see Ysgol Blaenau be discontinued on August 31st this year. The proposal would see the pupils at Ysgol Blaenau become registered at another local primary school in September 2021, before they will then be moved to a new larger building in 2023.
We believe that Ysgol Blaenau should remain open and that parents should have the choice to select a small school if they wish.
We oppose the closure of Ysgol Blaenau.
More details
We believe that with a clear strategic plan in place, Ysgol Blaenau can continue to remain an integral part of the community.
We believe that not all options have been considered that should be before a school is earmarked for closure.
We want to have the opportunity to strengthen Ysgol Blaenau by asking the local authority to allow the admission of 3 year olds, to offer wrap around child care, to establish after school club 5 days a week, to apply for 21st century funding to improve the building and to consider a federation with another local primary school.
We believe that all of these options are strong and viable.
Ysgol Blaenau has a new group of enthusiastic parents who are willing and able to contribute effectively to the ongoing success of the school.
We are asking for the opportunity to do so.
We are asking that our small school is not closed.
