Rejected petition Restrict viewings of occupied residential properties in Wales until the end of the Covid-19 pandemic
Prevent landlords and estate agents from using 24 hr notices to enter properties that they rent out so they can conduct numerous viewings daily. This will stop landlords/estate agents from using the 24 hr notice of entry to turn private rented properties into public spaces. It will also reduce the risk of covid19 spreading as a result of numerous viewings taking place on a daily basis.
Viewings should either take place virtually during the pandemic or there should be a limit on the number of viewings allowed each week. Landlords/estate agents should also hire a cleaning & decontamination service after each viewing.
More details
Tenants are entitled under UK law to what is known as “the covenant for quiet enjoyment”, which refers to their right to live in a property without interference from their landlord or estate agent. Despite this some landlords and estate agents are abusing the 24 hr notice that they have to give to tenants before they enter a property by giving themselves the right to issue such notices on a daily basis.
