Rejected petition Ban racist language, politics, policies, parties, politicians that incite racism to get votes
Negative Reference to people from abroad is all to often used to get cheap votes. Brexit was won on this. It is socially damaging & based on untruths & should not be allowed to gain votes. I am asking for this practice banned from politics & for politicians not to be allowed to use racially inflammatory language to gain votes. Eg Brexit was won on inflammatory campaign that has given permission for racist behaviour we are now seeing eg in football politics/ politicians needs to lead on this
More details
Many examples since Brexit that racism & racist behaviour & incidence of violence are on increase. Euro 20 being latest. Politics & politics s need to lead on this & parties, & individual politician using inflammatory racist language/ polices need to be banned it is damaging & decisive & gives the wrong people a voice. A commitment must be made in all parliaments to ban this type of politics to gain cheap votes & a fully inclusive type of politics must be promoted. Without politics & politicians taking the lead to remove this from campaigns & policies all the other things fall down. Cannot have social media banning people when politicians & their parties are inciting racism to get votes & significantly contributing toward a toxic environment & divisive society we are U.K. & need to think about what this means for all its residents & cheap politics is not Greg way to go campaigns can be won on many things & shouldn’t be won on divisive racism. also perpetuates institutional racism
Why was this petition rejected?
It asks the Senedd to do something that it is not able to do.
Legislation already exists which restrict an individual’s freedom of expression if the views being expressed encourage racial or religious hatred. The Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006 amended the Public Order Act 1986 and restricts the general right for freedom of expression set out in Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1988.
Neither the Senedd nor Welsh Government can make legislation or act in a manner which is incompatible with any of the Convention rights as set out in the Human Right Act 1988.
As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd or Welsh Government to take the action called for by your petition.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
