Rejected petition Save our precious environment. Stop an anonymous developer destroying Model Farm

Vale of Glamorgan council has granted consent for the construction of a business park on Model Farm. There is considerable local opposition to this planning when our local Council have declared a climate emergency and are considering the declaration of a Nature Emergency. Four generations of the same family have farmed this land. It's a sustainable farm with a range of diverse areas including acres of wildflower seeds which are provided free to schools as a haven for bees and other pollinators.

More details

On July 14th Vale of Glamorgan Planning Committee voted by 9 votes to 8 to grant permission to Legal and General for the construction of a business park close to Cardiff Airport. Legal and General already had a purchaser for this land. This prospective developer had obtained a non disclosure agreement. There was considerable local opposition to this development and there were over a thousand objections received. Legal and General were supported throughout by the planning department and there were at least three amended applications. A special planning committee meeting was called, at short notice, to debate this one planning application. Opposition to this application was voiced passionately but was rebuffed on every occasion by the planning officer. Councillors were warned that if they did not grant this application, the council would face severe financial penalties. There are many areas of brownfield sites in the locality including one directly opposite the farm.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

Decisions about whether to approve or reject planning applications are made by local authorities.

Petitions to the Senedd cannot concern an issue that is the operational responsibility of a local authority and, therefore, we are not able to accept a petition on this issue.

You could consider contacting your local council or your local representatives about this matter instead.
