More details

It is evident that Cymric Independence is once again a strong aspect of the political agenda in Cymru with Plaid Cymru having declared commitment to a referendum for such, and we, in Llysgenhadaeth Glyndŵr are encouraged and enthused by such changes - along with witnessing annually, a continual increase in the public flying of the Owain Glyndŵr flag, our Independence flag, seen flown at numerous events and occasions all over our land.

Lord Dafydd Wigley through an article In the 'National' newspaper has also called for September 16 - Dydd Glyndŵr to be given the status of a national holiday ( https://www.thenational.wales/news/19582497.glyndwr-day-worthy-new-national-holiday/) as a means of rekindling the flame of the torch for Independence stated Lord Wigley so, we now believe the time is right to call on all Cymric patriots and all politicians to rally to the fore to ensure that Dydd Glyndŵr gets the official status our nation and its greatest of national heroes deserves.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

Petitions to the Senedd must call for a specific action that falls within the powers of the Senedd or Welsh Government.

Schedules 7A and 7B of the Government of Wales Act 2006 set out the issues which are ‘restricted’ or ‘reserved’ to the UK Parliament - i.e. areas where only the UK Parliament or Government, not the Senedd or Welsh Government, can act.

The determination of bank holidays is reserved. As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.

Further information about the powers and responsibilities of the Senedd can be found here: https://senedd.wales/how-we-work/our-role/powers/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
