Rejected petition Change the School Transport Policy for Wales to protect local Communities from being divided
We currently live in one of the many communities in Wales which is situated close to the mid-point between two secondary schools. Both schools are a similar distance but the local authority is interpreting the Welsh Government guidance on providing transport to the nearest school, and refusing to apply common sense. This means that pupils living in the same village can be able to access or not, based on whether their homes are closer to another school that they don’t attend.
More details
We call for an urgent review of the Welsh Government’s transport policy and guidance to give greater flexibility to local authorities to apply common sense in cases where there is a clear potential to reduce traffic and carbon emissions, and avoid dividing communities.
