Rejected petition Make the Mabinogion compulsory reading in primary/secondary schools.
I have never read one text about or from Wales in primary or secondary school, I feel I missed out on a lot of my country's mythology but not having lessons about this text in English or Welsh lessons. As one of the most foundational texts of Wales, I feel we all owe it to ourselves as the Welsh people to know and appreciate this book.
More details
The books I studied in secondary school were Of Mice and Men, Heroes, The Mayor of Casterbridge and A Streetcar Named Desire. While I appreciate these texts greatly, myself and many of my peers questioned why we learn about texts and themes not relevant to Wales. This is why I believe we should study The Mabinogion.
