Rejected petition We would like schools in Wrexham investigated for not ensuring that there is enough food at lunch
There is a current issue in at least 2 schools in Wrexham that do not have adequate amounts of food available for pupils at lunch break. There are a proportion of students that are left without lunch or sometimes only having access to sugary snacks such as muffins or biscuits. No child should be hungry whilst trying to learn, nor should they be expected to concentrate at full potential with only sugar to keep them sustained. On further enquires this issue has been ongoing for a number of years.
More details
A number of reports have suggested this issue has been ongoing for almost a decade. One school responded that this is the first they have heard of it, which is surprising since a lot of parents and children have the same complaint and have had for a number of years
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.
School meal provision in specific schools is a matter for the school and local authority.
Petitions to the Senedd cannot concern an issue that is the operational responsibility of a local authority and, therefore, we are not able to accept a petition on this issue.
You could consider contacting the school governors or your local councillor about this matter instead.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
