Rejected petition Abolish the Senedd
The establishment of the Welsh Senedd, as an additional layer of government in Wales, was intended to empower the Welsh people and provide them with more control over their own affairs. This has proven to be false and is now evident that it has become a risk to our Democracy. The cost of maintaining an additional layer of government, the lack of clarity in responsibilities, economic drawbacks is why the Senedd has been detrimental to Wales
More details
Costly Bureaucracy: Salaries for Members of the Senedd, staff, and the maintenance of the Senedd building itself and it's egotistical pet projects is a drain on our taxes. This expenditure diverts funds that could have been used for essential public services in Wales, such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Lack of Clarity in Responsibilities: The division of powers between the Senedd and the UK Parliament is confusing and inefficient.
Inefficiencies in Governance: The Senedd has led to inefficiencies in governance. The need for constant negotiation and cooperation between the Senedd and the UK government has slowed down the decision-making process, making it difficult to respond quickly to pressing issues.
Economic Concerns: The Senedd's economic policies, such as its approach to taxation and business regulation is deterring investment and economic growth in Wales.
Limited Accountability: First Minister Drakeford no longer feels he answers to the people of Wales.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.
Abolition of the Senedd would require the UK Government to hold a referendum, and for the people of Wales to vote for abolition. It is not something the Senedd can do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
