Impact
A 20mph default speed limit came into force in Wales on the 17th of September 2023.
Lowering the speed limit increases travel times, especially on roads where higher speeds once permitted. It is a disruption for people who rely on faster travel for work or emergency reasons.
Businesses & customers who rely on timely deliveries, courier services, and online retailers, will face delays as drivers adhere to the lower speed limit. This could impact customer satisfaction and possibly harm finances.
Economic: Slower travel will result in negative economic consequences in terms of productivity. If people spend more time commuting or transporting goods, they will have less time for work, leisure, or other activities that contribute to the economy.
Public Support: The limited and lack of alternative and effective public transportation Options to using a car for people in Wales suggests that the level of public support for this change does not coequal the Welsh Government.
