Rejected petition Abolish the Senedd

Stop Wasting tax payers money.

More details

To many people struggling to provide life's essentials, (food, fuel) and keep a roof over their heads, yet we are wasting money doubling up control of the country. This involves paying Senedd members wages, expenses and for upkeep of buildings.

This money could be used for the people and to support the people, yet we are paying Senedd members who still don't listen to what the public have to say. (Build too many houses, change the road speed limits etc. etc.)

Money we are wasting per year: (2022/23)
Drakeford £150,000
Ministers £100,000 x8
Deputies £90,000 x5

Staffing Costs 2022/23
Approx. 5.2 Million

Time to devolve.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

The Senedd was established as a legislative body by section 1(1) of the Government of Wales Act 2006. Abolishing the Senedd would require a repeal of this section which could only be done by the UK Government proposing legislation to the UK Parliament. Prior to revoking section
1 of GoWA - a referendum would have to be called by the UK parliament where the people of Wales would have to vote in favour of abolishing the Senedd in order for section 1 of GoWA to be repealed.
As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.

Further information about the powers and responsibilities of the Senedd can be found here: https://senedd.wales/how-we-work/our-role/powers/

You may wish to consider petitioning the UK Parliament about this issue instead: https://petition.parliament.uk/
