Rejected petition Hold a referendum to decide if the number of Welsh Assembly Members should be increased.

During a cost-of-living crisis the money that will be spent paying extra assembly members and their assistants would be better spent elsewhere. In Wales our education system is in decline and our NHS is failing. Why are we wasting millions on more layers of bureaucracy?

Why was this petition rejected?

There’s already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue, or if the Petitions Committee has considered one in the last year.

The Committee have previously considered petitions relating to Senedd reform including one calling for a referendum:

Welsh Government should hold a referendum before expanding the size of the Senedd (completed on 9 January 2023)

Another petition on the topic is currently collecting signatures: I Oppose the Welsh Government "Senedd Reform Bill", published 18 September 2023, becoming law.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition: https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/245625

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
