Rejected petition Introduction of Class E Use Class for Business Premises in Wales
We urge the Welsh Government to adopt Class E Use Class, following England's lead, to simplify regulations for business premises. The current complex system in Wales, comprising various distinct use classes, presents significant challenges for small businesses, involving lengthy and costly processes for changes in premises use.
More details
In England, Class E has been introduced to streamline the use classes for business premises, integrating a variety of former categories into one. This change has significantly benefited businesses by providing flexibility and reducing red tape. In contrast, Wales's current system categorises business premises into numerous specific classes (like A1 for shops, B1 for business purposes, etc.), leading to inefficiencies and barriers for business growth.
Adopting Class E in Wales would offer a unified and flexible framework for business premises, enabling easier transition between different business uses without the need for extensive planning permissions. It would align Welsh regulations with those in England, offering consistency and making Wales a more attractive destination for investment.
We request the Welsh Government to consider the introduction of Class E Use Class for business premises. This reform is vital for improving the business environment in Wales, benefiting particularly small and emerging businesses.
