Rejected petition Increase all speed limit discrepancies to 10% + 4 mph as with the 20mph blanket.

Increase all speed limit discrepancies to 10% + 4 meaning the limit in a 30mph zone would be enforceable at 37mph, and so on.l all the way to 81 mph being the limit for driving at 70mph.
I think this would be in line with the recent 10% + 4 given to the 20mph blanket which is 26mph before being enforced even though guidelines from the charity Brake which has been advertised by Lee Water MS states cars cannot stop at 25mph!

More details

The Brake charity states that a child running out in front of a car three lengths away would still be hit by a car travelling at 25mph even though the enforceable limit is 26mph. If the 10% + 4 is irrelevant to safety at 20mph then I see no reason why other speed limits cannot be subject to a 10% + 4 increase as well as the current discrepancy of 26mph for the 20mph blanket according to the Brake statement is more detrimental than 25mph.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

Petitions to the Senedd must call for a specific action that falls within the powers of the Senedd or Welsh Government.

The tolerance on speed enforcement is set in National Police Chief’s Council guidelines. The GoSafe Partnership FAQs on 20mph say:
“GoSafe apply the NPCC guidelines which outline the enforcement thresholds of not less than 10% plus 2mph. While the public get used to the change in default limit, Chief Police Officers have allowed us to increase this to 10% plus 4mph in 20mph only, meaning we start to prosecute at 26mph in a 20mph limit.”

The Welsh Government are not able to instruct the National Police Chief's Council as policing is reserved, which means it remain the responsibility of the UK Government.

As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.

You may wish to consider petitioning the UK Parliament about this issue instead: https://petition.parliament.uk/
