Rejected petition Remove speed humps, raised crossings and chicanes as their calming effect is no longer needed 20mph .
It's four months since the Welsh Parliament passed legislation making 20mph the default speed limit for restricted roads in Wales.
Sold to the public as a safety measure in residential areas and to save lives. The measure saw the limit reduced by one third.
The motoring public are co-operating and complying with the law in the principality.
Progress is now very calm. safe and with modern cars able to stop more efficiently than ever the danger of speed has been dramatically reduced.
More details
So now is the time having received the motorists co-operation that the Welsh Parliament review it's use of speed humps and raised crossings and chicanes as their calming effect is no longer needed and disturbs the slow calm progress of traffic.
Raised crossings can be replaced by drop kerbs to ensure access and inclusivity. Accessed only by those self propelling they will not suffer wear and tear by vehicles.
To remove these highway obstacles will have many positive outcomes.
Tarmac and other materials used in the construction and maintenance of them will be saved and used to repair the sorry state of our roads.
The need to constantly slow down and speed up will be removed. Vehicles travelling at constant 20mph progress evenly reducing noise of engines and improving fuel consumption. Suspension compressing and decompressing will be reduced saving wear and tear (and replacement) to suspension and steering components, braking and deposits of brake dusts. Pollution will be decreased contributing to cleaner air and environment.
