Rejected petition Empower Doctors to prescribe (ADHD) medication for children on lengthy waiting lists
My son has been stuck in limbo for six years. At age 5 years and 6 months, he underwent a three-hour assessment for Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Had he been just 6 months older he would have received a formal diagnosis and the appropriate treatment and medication. Instead due to a change within our location, we've spent half a decade waiting for him to be reassessed.
More details
This is not an isolated case. Thousands of children across the country are on very long waiting lists; unable to receive the necessary medication because they're too young or the case is still under review. This leaves them without support as their condition spirals out of control. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends treating ADHD in children over six with FDA-APPROVED medications along with behavior therapy (source; APP). Yet many doctors feel powerless to prescribe these medications due to bureaucratic red tape and stringent regulations.
We need change now. We must empower Doctors with the ability to prescribe ADHD medication while children are still on the extensive waiting lists, not when it's too late. If not for your own child, then please sign this petition for those who are suffering from this unjust system.
Please sign the petition and help us change the future for our children by allowing them access to timely treatment they desperately need or provide alternative remedies.
