Rejected petition To reserve and use the 20mph national speed limit on roads in vulnerable and high risk areas only.
Since the 20mph national speed limit change vulnerable and high risk areas no longer have immediate signage alerting drivers to slow down. It is now counter intuitive to the ethos of highlighting danger areas. The visual impact for drivers in these areas to slow down has now gone. Current evidence suggests that the average driver drives at 24 mph in 20mph areas. Using and highlighting the 20mph speed limit robustly in these high risk areas correctly will bring down speed, saving lives.
