Maternity and Perinatal Mental Health services need Neurodiversity specialist services in Wales to work together for better pathways of care for every new parent. Creating better information and being neurodivergence-friendly in their practice. To form a steering group from all health boards in Wales to create tool kits for staff, education, and person-centered support for parents who are neurodivergent and parenting and mental health support programs to they needs.

Neurodiversity refers to the idea that neurological differences, such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, are natural variations in the human population and should be recognized and respected as such. Unfortunately, individuals who are neurodivergent are at a higher risk for suicide compared to neurotypical individuals
According to the report "MBRRACE-UK: Saving Lives, Improving Mothers' Care," published by the Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK (MBRRACE-UK) collaboration, maternal suicide is one of the leading causes of death in women during the perinatal period in the UK.
The fact that the “prevalence of suicide risk in fathers in postpartum was of 4.8%”; fathers with perinatal mental health problems are 47 times more likely to be rated as a suicide risk than at any other time in their lives. Quevedo et al (2011).
