Rejected petition Reduction of Cancer Treatment waiting time - 62 days to 30 days at a maximum in Wales.

Currently in Wales, Health Boards are expected to begin Cancer treatment plans with those suspected of a positive Cancer diagnosis, within 62 days.

This is too long and needs to be reduced to a maximum of 30 days before treatment commences.

More details

The International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership has found that countries with shorter waiting times for Cancer treatment, specifically Chemo and Radiotherapy, had increased rates of disease survival.

Average time to start Chemotherapy treatment in Wales is 58 days. For comparison, it is 39 days in Norway.

Average time to start Radiotherapy treatment in Wales is 81 days. For comparison, it is 42 days in Newfoundland.

For improved Cancer treatment outcomes, the time taken to start treatment after diagnosis/suspected presence of Cancer, MUST be reduced.
