Rejected petition Establish a 100m wide zone around the coast of Wales to restore nature and help reach 30% by 2030.
Establish a 100 metre-wide coastal wildlife zone around the Welsh coastline to restore ecosystems as well as enhancing coastal nature based economies.
Currently only 5% of land in the UK qualifies as being effectively protected for nature. We need to bring nature back to life and restore habitats. This single act would make a major contribution to the setting aside of 30% of land in Wales for the recovery of nature by 2030.
It would play a major part in tackling the nature emergency.
More details
We are one of the most nature depleted countries in the world with about half of our nature lost over the last 50 years.
Numerous 'State of Nature' reports have told us that business as usual is just not an option.
Nature is our most precious resource. We depend on it for the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.
The setting up of a buffer coastal nature zone would benefit local wildlife as well as creating a boost for our eco tourism industry.
