Rejected petition Petition for alternative verification methods for 2FA access

The current 2FA policies pose significant risk to users , particularly when they do not have access to the designated phone number .This situation not only affects my personal but also highlights a broader issue of data accessibility and user rights
User should have the ability to recover their account through alternative verification methods especially when the current method is inaccessible.

More details

Recently I found myself locked out of my AppleID account due to an unfamiliar phone number linked to my 2FA settings .This number is non-UK and I have no way to changing it, Which has resulted the years worth loss of family photos and academic material.Despite my attempts to provide valid identification, billing information and other means of verification, Apple has not offered alternative methods to regain access to
My account.

I am initiating a petition advocating for the implementation of mandated policies requiring companies that manage personal data to offer alternative verification methods for 2FA .It is imperative that technology firms adapt to ensure that users can maintain access to there data especially in cases where the standard verification method fails or is unavailable.
The current 2FA policies pose significant risk to users , particularly when they do not have access to the designated phone number .

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

Not the Senedd/Government’s responsibility

The Government of Wales Act 2006 establishes the extent of the Senedd’s power to make new laws and amend existing law (also known as legislative competence). Schedules 7A and 7B of the 2006 Act set out the issues which are ‘restricted’ or ‘reserved’ - i.e. areas where the UK Parliament, not the Senedd, can legislate.

The protection of personal data is a reserved matter under paragraph 170 of Scheule 7A. As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.

Further information about the powers and responsibilities of the Senedd can be found here: https://senedd.wales/how-we-work/our-role/powers/

You may wish to consider petitioning the UK Parliament about this issue instead: https://petition.parliament.uk/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
