Rejected petition Don't contribute to taxing vehicles per mile.

A tax per milewould greatly increase household expenses. Especially those who can only get from A to B by car. Work, regular GP visits, pharmacy. family visits, caring for relatives, etc. Not to mention the increase in prices due to the delivery of the goods, the delivery fees are several times higher.

We, the citizens, strongly oppose the government's proposed scheme to charge automobile users for each mile driven. This initiative would undeniably place a substantial financial strain on all families, especially those with sick members who are heavily reliant on personal transportation. The principles of freedom of movement, integral to our democratic society, are at risk of erosion if this unfair system comes into play. It is imperative to stress that car owners already provide significant contributions to national coffers with the plethora of taxes levied on them including those on fuel. Adding another form of taxation would seemingly cross the line into the realm of double taxation, which is inherently unjust. Therefore, we urge lawmakers to abandon these plans and instead foster a transportation system that respects every citizen's right to free movement, regardless of their economic status. We call upon everyone to voice their objection to this proposal as this matter pertains to our collective freedom. Sign this petition to protect our right to free movement.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.

The Government of Wales Act 2006 establishes the extent of the Senedd’s power to make new laws and amend existing law (also known as legislative competence). Schedules 7A and 7B of the 2006 Act set out the issues which are ‘restricted’ or ‘reserved’ - i.e. areas where the UK Parliament, not the Senedd, can legislate.

This includes Section A1 - Fiscal, economic and monetary policy. As a result, it is not possible for the Senedd to take the action called for by your petition.

Further information about the powers and responsibilities of the Senedd can be found here: https://senedd.wales/how-we-work/our-role/powers/

You may wish to consider petitioning the UK Parliament about this issue instead: https://petition.parliament.uk/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards
