Rejected petition End the management of NHS hospital parking by private car parking companies

Despite the Welsh Government announcing in 2018 that NHS parking would be free, there remain examples of private car parking companies profiting from vulnerable patients and hard-working NHS staff. The Welsh Government should review all outstanding contracts with private companies, and ensure they are ended at the earliest opportunity. We all want safe parking for our hospitals but this needs to be done fairly, unlike the inappropriate fining and unjust appeals process that parking eye offers.

More details

ParkingEye, a private parking company, currently manage the car parks for Cardiff and Vale UHB. This company are prolific in issuing fines, making the appeals process extremely difficult and showing absolutely no compassion or understanding for patients nor staff.
The sole goal of any private company is to profit, Parking eye is no different. Their website claims they have been hired by the health board to ensure ‘improved parking’, however they have made it clear that the only goal is to make money. As an employee at a Cardiff & Vale hospital, I have received multiple inappropriate fines when parking for work, all of which I have appealed, all of which have been denied. Parking eye completely dismiss any reasoning, insisting on payment no matter what. This is the case for countless staff and patients/visitors. Money made from vulnerable people and NHS workers should not line the pockets of a private company. Please help to stop this from happening going forward.
