Rejected petition Enhance the Ely & Caerau Community Plan for a Stronger Community - ACE

Amend the Ely & Caerau Community Plan to focus on grassroots sports, environmental sustainability, and transparency in funding distribution.

The Ely & Caerau Community Plan is valuable for addressing our community's challenges and opportunities. This petition aims to enhance the plan to better serve the residents of Ely & Caerau. It calls on the Senedd to consider key amendments, focusing on grassroots sports, environmental sustainability, and funding transparency.

More details

Community leaders developed the Ely & Caerau Community Plan, chaired by Jane Hutt MS, in response to the events of May 2023. While the plan is commendable, there are areas where it can be further strengthened.

Firstly, the Community Plan lacks a dedicated section on grassroots sports, which play a vital role in fostering physical and mental well-being, community cohesion, and youth development. Secondly, the Community Plan should explicitly address the issue of gentrification. This process can lead to displacement of residents and the closure of public spaces, impacting community cohesion. Lastly, to ensure accountability and community ownership, a transparent and efficient funding allocation system is essential.

We express our gratitude to ACE for their efforts in providing a platform for different voices and bringing diverse groups together. These amendments can ensure they reflect the community's needs, creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous future for all.
