Rejected petition Support a campaign called #Canwedoitdifferent to promote accessibility across Wales

Hi, my name is Jen, and I’m legally blind. I don’t use a cane or a guide dog yet, and so my disability is very much a hidden disability. I'm raising awareness for people living with DIFFerences, and I truly believe that visibility, understanding, and inclusion can make a real impact. My goal is to break down barriers, and create a world where everyone – regardless of their difference – feels seen, valued and empowered to live their lives as the most authentic versions of themselves.

More details

This campaign takes inspiration for the 'AskforAngela' campaign and if we can demonstrate success in Wales it could go on to become a national change across the UK. Although it is the law that places like nightclubs make reasonable adjustments for people with a disability or difference this is not widely followed in practice. When we sit in restaurants they will always ask us our intolerance but not whether we have an accessibility need. We have the power to change our culture to better include people living with difference to engage in our communal spaces. I want this to be a way that we show the wider UK that Wales cares about accessibility and we want to ensure our community feels safe and supported without excluding people with speech impairments, sight impairment, physical impairments or mental health barriers. I am passionate that this all be bilingual and especially with the planned changes to PIP this is our opportunity to show our people they do matter and they do belong here in Wales.
