Rejected petition Reverse the decision on the "Fast Food Ban" (buy one get one free, free refills, etc.)
The Welsh government will introduce new regulations to tackle obesity, banning unhealthy foods like chocolate, crisps, and sugary drinks from key spots in supermarkets (+ more, see below) starting March 2026, While some support the move to reduce impulse buys and encourage healthier choices, others argue it limits personal freedom. Critics believe the focus should be on better food education, accessible healthy options, and supporting active lifestyles, rather than restricting consumer choices.

This will also see the ban of BOGOF deals in shops with 10 or more shops in the chain, and removal of free refills at popular restaurants which are considered a luxury to visit and not somewhere people visit very frequently due to costs.

I strongly believe adults should have the freedom to make their own choices, including what they eat. The growing trend of a "nanny state" in Wales, with measures like the 20mph speed limit and food display bans, is a concerning overreach. Instead of limiting options, we should focus on proactive solutions like educating children to cook healthy meals, which would ripple through families. Empowering individuals to make informed choices, not restricting freedoms, and focussing on costs in this inflation ridden country, is key to tackling obesity and improving public health.
