More details
From September 2025, Bridgend council will be removing funding for school transport provision for Post-16 students attending English-medium schools. Transport will only be provided for students attending their nearest Welsh-medium or faith secondary school.
Unfortunately, this change leaves out Post-16 students who attend any English-medium school or further education college. Our view is this presents great accessibility and equality issues, as it denies equal opportunities to a significant number of students. In addition, educational attainment could be impacted as students who find travel troublesome might stop attending.
Reversing this decision is paramount to maintaining an educational environment that supports all learners equally irrespective of their chosen study pathway. We ask that Bridgend council reconsiders this decision and reinstates transportation services for all Post-16 students in Bridgend, ensuring equal treatment for all educational paths.
