Rejected petition We would like Powys County Council to amend their recently changed transport policy.
Powys County Council have recently changed their "Home to school" transport policy. Previously children along the Powys/Shropshire boarder were entitled to free transportation to their "nearest suitable school". (6 miles to Bishops Castle Community College)
Powys have now denied access for those children wishing instead for them to attend their "catchement school" (Welshpool high school ..11 miles in this instance) which is a school twice the distance and travel time from their homes.
More details
Powys claim that they have NOT changed the policy only the wording to reduce ambiguity. However this change of wording means that many children on the boarder can no longer access transport to their chosen school in many cases a school where older siblings already attend.
Its vital that in this day and age we don't just look after our children's mental and emotional stability, but promote the opportunity for them to learn life skills and independence by learning to "catch the bus" to school to encourage their social confidence.
Please help us to bring this to everyones attention as it effects all children along the welsh/Shropshire boarder, for our children and future generations.
