Petition Request signage in parks to help protect children with allergies
We are calling on local councils and park authorities to introduce simple, yet vital, signage in all public parks:
“Please do not eat while using the play equipment – help keep this space safe for everyone.”
Food allergies can be life-threatening, and many families live with the constant worry of accidental contact reactions. For children with severe allergies, particularly to common snacks like crisps, even small traces of food on equipment can trigger a serious response.
More details
As parents and carers, we want our children to enjoy outdoor spaces just like any other child. Unfortunately, we’ve had to leave parks because of allergic reactions caused by food residue left behind on play equipment.
This isn’t about restricting anyone’s enjoyment – it’s about inclusion and safety. A simple sign serves as a gentle reminder that eating while climbing, swinging, or sliding can put others at risk. It encourages awareness and kindness in shared public spaces.
We believe that this small change could make a big difference in allowing all children – including those with allergies – to play safely and confidently in our parks.
