Rejected petition Cease charging a fee for access to Blackrock Sands beach
Each year the Gwynedd council have charged a fee in summer time for the use of the public access road to Blackrock Sands beach, this has gradually increased and has now become unacceptable.
£8 per car and considerably more for larger vehicles, per day.
I have been informed it is to maintain the public access road, Gwynedd council already use a portion of council tax to repair and maintain roads, and vehicle users pay road tax, so why are we being charged twice for this service?
More details
I believe this is a public beach and use of it is free, the fee is for access road maintenance.
This fee is not charged in winter months, do the roads not get maintained in winter?
As most people already pay council tax for road maintenance, why are the public being charged again for road maintenance.
Potentially an acceptable compromise would be free access to Gwynedd residents, but most users will already be paying council tax and road tax, so I propose free access.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.
This is a matter for Cyngor Gwynedd, which has its own petitions process.
