Rejected petition Pull Welsh Government funding from the Greenman festival if Kneecap aren’t dropped from the lineup.
The Greenman festival which is due to take place in August 2025 receives substantial funding from the Welsh Government including the use of the land purchased by the Welsh Government for £4 million. If the festival organisers refuse to drop kneecap from the lineup, no Welsh Government funding or use of the land should be given to the organisers for any future events. Kneecap have displayed antisemitic rhetoric on stage recently including inciting violence against MP’s.
More details
Wales markets itself as a welcoming place for all. The leader of the Welsh Conservatives spoke to some of the Jewish community in Wales who were left distraught and fearful following the events that took place at this years Glastonbury. If the Welsh Government continue to fund this event, what does this say to the Jewish community in Wales?
Previous petitions calling for the Welsh Government to ban Kneecap from the festival have been rejected due to the Welsh Government having no say who plays at the event. The Welsh Government however do have a say in who they give funds to. It needs to be made clear to the organisers of the Greenman festival that if they want to platform such hateful acts, the Welsh Government will no longer support the event going forward including the use of the land purchased by the Welsh Government.
