Petition Fund separate ADHD Clinics across the Welsh NHS. Community Mental Health Teams are overburdened by unprecedented demand.

Increased awareness of ADHD is resulting in unprecedented referrals for screening and follow-up care & treatment. Overwhelming demand is overburdening clinicians & support staff - who are unable to appoint patients until months after RTT deadlines, to follow-up until months after clinicians deem necessary, report clinic outcomes to GPs, refer to therapy or other services timeously, and are inundated with queries & complaints - patients' wellbeing adversely affected.

More details

The Ty Einon Community Mental Health Team in Gorseinon is just one example of this situation. Despite the Chief Executive being aware of the situation, funding for clinicians and support staff needed for separate ADHD Clinics is unforthcoming. We appeal to the Welsh Government: Please fund the provision of separate ADHD Clinics complete with the additional clinicians and support staff required at Ty Einon Community Mental Health Team in Gorseinon - and other affected CMHTs in NHS Wales - to enable the screening, follow-up, treatment and care which both existing and new patients need and deserve. Existing staff are over-stressed & frustrated being unable to meet the overwhelming demand, and the impact of this on the mental health and wellbeing of patients - all of whom have mental health conditions - is intolerable.
