Rejected petition Stop building wind farms on shore, in our beautiful Welsh countryside.Plan more offshore wind farms.
There are too many windfarms being planned in Wales.
• At minimum, there are 3 officially proposed projects by Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru.
• Bute Energy is pursuing approximately 10–18 projects.
• On top of that, RWE and others are planning several more, each in various stages of consultation or planning.
We don’t want these windfarms destroying our beautiful countryside!
More details
We, the undersigned, oppose the spread of large onshore wind farms in Wales and urge investment in offshore wind instead. Onshore projects scar our landscapes and heritage, with turbines up to 220m tall threatening Wales’s natural beauty, tourism appeal, and cultural identity. They risk harming wildlife such as birds, bats, and fragile upland habitats, while disrupting rural life through construction traffic, noise, and shadow flicker. Valuable farmland and forestry are lost to turbine bases, roads, and power lines, while communities are left divided as big developers profit and locals bear the costs. Offshore wind can provide the same clean energy without destroying our hills, mountains, and countryside. Wales has some of the best offshore wind resources in Europe – this is where future investment should be made. We call on the Welsh Government to stop approving onshore wind farms and instead back offshore renewables that protect our landscapes, wildlife, and communities.
