A shorter summer holiday period could allow for longer half term breaks. Reasons why? Parental difficulties - many parents struggle with childcare and the cost of extended holiday periods.
Child wellbeing - can lead to a loss of routine, huge effect on children from disadvantaged backgrounds and the struggle to re-adapt to school.
Learning loss - shorter more frequent breaks might help to reduce learning loss and keep children more engaged with their studies throughout the year.
