Rejected petition Stop Govnmt increasing council tax & introducing new taxation without approval from the electorate
The general popultaion of Wales are both facing and dealing with a historic burden on household finances. The cost of living as we are all aware is at an historic high. The potential for yet more tax and price increases from both the UK Government and the Welsh Senndy, via the forthcoming budget has the potential to cause the citizens of Wales considerable hardship. This archaic and medieval top down system must stop.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the Senedd or Welsh Government is not responsible for.
Council tax levels in individual authorities are a matter for the local authority, not the Senedd. However, this petition https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/246502 which calls for a cap on increases across all authorities, recently closed to new signatures and was discussed in the Petitions Committee during the Autumn term.
The Welsh Government and Senedd have some devolved powers over taxation: https://www.gov.wales/welsh-taxes You may also be interested in this petition on Welsh rates of income tax which is currently collecting signatures on the website: https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/246780
