Petition Require every high school to have a fully functional library and a librarian.

Many high schools across Wales lack libraries equipped for the modern day, including damaged and outdated books and a lack of working computers. On top of this, many school libraries lack librarians, leading schools to stretch resources to keep them open. This leads to students not being able to use libraries to their full potential for learning and revision. We propose that every high school in Wales should have a fully equipped library and a librarian.

We would like to see a framework similar to the Scottish Government's school library strategy (2018-2023). We believe this will help enforce the aims that were set out in the Welsh Government's curriculum for Wales (2022). The document "Information Literacy Framework for Wales" (published by the Welsh government in 2009) promotes research and reading skills, although this is not binding. We believe our petition can help achieve this.
