Petition Reinstate Welsh Government funding to ensure Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant surgery stays open.
Since the loss of MPIG (Minimum Practice Income Guarantee) in 2015, Llanrhaeadr surgery has been supported with extra funding. The necessity of providing medical services and dispensing from a branch in this large, unique and remote area of North Powys was the reason this additional funding was given. Powys Teaching Health Board are no longer going to provide additional funding to keep this branch open in the long term.
More details
Cuts to funding are forcing Llanfyllin Group Practice (a large rural, multi-site, dispensing practice) into giving notice to close their Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant Medical Centre. This will have a detrimental impact on Primary Care provision throughout this rural area. The immediate threat to Llanrhaeadr Medical Centre will impact the longer-term sustainability of the Llanfyllin Group Practice leading to poorer services and even greater pressures on A&Es.
We demand that the Senedd reviews the funding of Primary Care in Montgomeryshire/Powys to ensure an equity of provision for all patients. As the sole providers of Primary Care and dispensary services in an area of 460 square miles, Llanfyllin Group Practice must be able to keep their three current sites open to ensure access to healthcare for all in this vast, unique area of Powys.
