Petition Protect Llanidloes: Stop illegal & dangerous gas and water pollution from Bryn Posteg Landfill now
NRW’s own reports confirm Bryn Posteg is a "Significant" risk. In 2025 alone, the site recorded methane levels of 84% (safety limit 1%) and discharged solids into the Nant Y Bradnant at 140x the legal limit. Officers were forced to abandon checks in specific zones due to dangerous gas levels triggering their personal safety alarms. Despite being labelled the "worst performing landfill in Wales," pollution continues, impacting local residents. We demand intervention to prevent irreversible damage
More details
Evidence from Natural Resources Wales (2024–2025, https://publicregister.naturalresources.wales) shows Bryn Posteg Landfill is in systemic collapse, endangering public safety and the environment.
1. Severe River Pollution: In Nov 2025, the site discharged sediment into the Nant Y Bradnant at 7,050 mg/l - 140 times the legal limit (50 mg/l) (Ref: CAR_NRW0050076). Despite orders to install a bund, inspectors found in Dec 2025 that no barrier was built.
2. Gas Risk: Methane levels at the site perimeter consistently hit 84% (Ref: CAR_NRW0049850), far exceeding the 1% safety limit. Gas migration is now so severe that in April 2025, NRW officers were forced to abandon an area when personal gas alarms were triggered.
3. Impact to local residents is severe, with daily smell nuisances trapping people indoors, fearing for water safety and dangerous gas migration.
NRW calls this the "worst performing landfill in Wales." We demand urgent action from NRW and a transparent remediation plan.
